How To Learn Spanish For Free - Day 14
"Another day, another dollar" as they say or should it be "another day another euro"? Anyway whatever they say (whoever "They" really are) I have been out on the road again running my business. Late last night I got into the car and headed over to Wales to do some work with a client of a client (if you see what I mean).
2 hours in the car is good Learn Spanish time and so I took advantage of that opportunity to listen to a couple of podcasts on the way. This morning I had to be up especially early to get to the cient on time but in between showering, having breakfast in the hotel and driving to the venue I still managed to get some flash card time in. I am starting to get into the habit of taking every opportunity to sneak a peak at the flash cards.
Even if I ony get chance to go through 1 card, that is still six words or phrases under the belt. Every little helps and who knows, down the road it could be the difference between ordering the chef’s special or mistakenly asking to purchase his sister! Anway back to my day and the work I was doing with my client. Today I ran a seminar on Mind Mapping which is a great tool for your learn Spanish arsenal but I shall talk about that another time. It as a good day but a long day.
I really enjoy my work but I have to put a lot into it and so a day on my feet can be quite draining. And then when I am faced with a two hour drive home it can be quite a long day. I used the time in the car constructively and although I did not feel like it, I plugged the iPod into the car stereo and listened to a couple of the edufone podcasts again. I was really glad I did because I got plenty out of the review.
I suppose the point I am trying to put across here is that I forced myself to keep to my commitment of doing something every single day, even though I did not feel like it. At the time it took some self control and now I feel a little bit smug about it (that’s me being a little bit self indulgent!).
So what do you do when you don’t feel like learning some Spanish even though you know you should? Well part of the problem there may be because you have only made it a "should" and not a "must". As soon as it becomes a must then things start to happen. "Should dos" are quite easy to put off, quickly become a "should have" and then they morph into a "I really ought to get back into" which finally ends up as a "Yes I used to do that".
Anyway, I’ll get off my soap box right now because I am sure there will come a day when I don’t do anything and I don’t want to start beating myself up about it. I wanted to tell you about how important your physical and mental state is for learning a language but at this very moment my physical and mental state is not conducive to talking to you about positive mental and physical state. So I am going to have an early night and perhaps tell you about it tomorrow.
